Gary Player Tees Up New Golf Course at CostaBaja

In one of the biggest media events La Paz, Mexico has ever seen, international golf phenomenon Gary Player teed off from what will be the ninth hole of the first Gary Player Signature Golf Course ever to be built in Mexico. The groundbreaking event for the course was located at the coastal seaside community of CostaBaja Resort & Marina on January 27th.

The international media event with press from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico along with Mexico’s high-society, gathered to learn about the newest of Gary Player’s designs. An ocean-side press conference at CostaBaja’s private Beach Club and a cocktail reception allowed Mr. Player to mingle and share his vision for this unique course that will feature panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez and an innovative design that compliments the unique desert-by-the-sea landscape. The course is expected to open in the summer of 2010.

Over a three-day period Mr. Player and his team surveyed the course to ensure maximum visibility of both the Sea of Cortez and the natural desert landscape, keeping in mind what is best for the environment. CostaBaja was recently awarded Mexico’s most prestigious environmental care award, the Certificate of Tourist Environmental Quality for its green practices.
